The situation on the peninsula has reached a critical point. Satellites from Planet Labs have recorded an unprecedented transportation collapse before the Kerch Bridge. As of June 24–25, 2026, traffic jams exceeding 10 kilometers in length have formed on the exit from Crimea towards the Krasnodar Krai. Approximately 1,500 vehicles are stuck in this "concrete river." The opposing flow, traditionally filling the bridge with tourists and trucks from Russia, is completely absent — traffic is moving in only one direction: towards the mainland.

Fuel Crisis and Ban on Fuel Sales

The main cause of the mass exodus is an acute shortage of resources. In June 2026, Crimea suffered the largest-scale attacks in the entire history of the conflict. Precision strikes by drones and missiles destroyed key logistics hubs and energy infrastructure, including a major oil depot in Kerch.

In response to the destruction, the occupation authorities introduced unprecedented restrictions: the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel to civilians is completely banned. Fuel is now distributed exclusively among special services and state agencies. Major local gas station networks, such as "TES" and "ATAN," have massively ceased operations. Residents, deprived of the ability to refuel locally, are forced to drive to neighboring Russian regions to buy a can of gasoline, which creates the main flow of vehicles on the bridge.

Energy Collapse and Cancellation of the Resort Season

Damage to the power grids has led to the introduction of strict electricity outage schedules. Power in Crimea and Sevastopol is cut off every three hours, making life in homes practically impossible. Against this backdrop, the Russian Ministry of Defense and the local administration have declared a state of emergency and taken measures that effectively destroy the resort season:

  • Until September 1, 2026, the admission of children's groups is completely banned.
  • All children's health camps on the peninsula are closed.
  • An emergency evacuation of the famous children's center "Artek" is underway — children are being urgently transported to their permanent places of residence in mainland Russia.

Logistical Deadlock and Bridge Blockade

The situation is exacerbated by a total blockade of logistics. The Kerch Bridge, being the only land artery, is constantly paralyzed. Russian military forces block traffic every night for periods ranging from 4 to 6 hours due to regular announcements of missile danger and threats of attacks by Ukrainian sea drones.

Even when traffic is opened in the morning, throughput remains minimal. Security forces conduct a total manual inspection of every vehicle at the checkpoints. Waiting time in the queue for inspection is 3 hours or more. A critical factor was also the destruction by the Ukrainian Armed Forces of the key railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal, which forced the cancellation of 11 trains and the redirection of all passenger flows to the roads, finally overloading the already paralyzed infrastructure.
