In Crimea, under Russian occupation, a massive crisis in the financial services sector is unfolding. Local residents are increasingly facing the inability to make purchases using bank cards. Terminals are ceasing to function, and cashless payments are becoming unavailable at key infrastructure points.

The situation, reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Center for National Resistance (CNR), indicates a systemic failure in the operation of the occupation economy. While payment systems previously functioned relatively stably, failures have now become mass occurrences.

Transport system under attack

Payment problems are affecting the transport sector most painfully. Residents of the peninsula are mass complaining about their inability to pay by card in public transport. This creates chaos in daily life: people accustomed to cashless transfers find themselves facing the necessity of having cash on hand, which is not always available given the shortage and instability.

Failures are recorded not only in buses but also at other infrastructure objects. However, according to observers, the bank cards themselves continue to work in other places. This indicates that the problem is of a local nature and is related to critical failures of specific payment networks or equipment at infrastructure facilities.

Silence of the occupation authorities

The Center for National Resistance emphasizes that such incidents are no longer isolated. However, the so-called authorities on the peninsula are avoiding public explanations for the causes of what is happening.

"The occupation system is beginning to fail. At the same time, the so-called authorities are avoiding public explanations for the causes of the failures, leaving people to face the problems alone," note the CNR. The lack of an official reaction only intensifies social tension and the population's distrust of the administration's actions.

Causes of the collapse: from logistics to resources

Analysts link the collapse of the cashless payment system to the general deterioration of the economic and logistical situation on the peninsula. The main factors provoking failures are cited as:

  • Shortage of resources necessary to maintain the operation of banking networks.
  • Regular interruptions in the supply of equipment and components.
  • Critical overload of the occupation infrastructure, which cannot cope with the loads.

Despite Russian propaganda claims of "stability" and "development" of the region, reality demonstrates the opposite — the degradation of basic services on which people's quality of life directly depends.

Economic blockade and fuel crisis

Problems with ATMs and terminals are just the tip of the iceberg. Recently, the economic situation in Crimea has deteriorated rapidly. The occupiers have introduced strict restrictions on fuel sales. AI-95 gasoline is now issued primarily to municipal transport and via coupons, while the sale of AI-92 is limited to 20 liters per vehicle.

An additional factor of pressure has been the activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Navy warned that Russian civilians and illegal tourists can expect unpleasant surprises: Ukrainian drones have taken the main highways in Crimea under fire control, blocking enemy logistics on the "land corridor." This leads to even greater disruption of supplies and exacerbation of the shortage of essential goods.
