On July 3, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) considered a motion regarding the selection of a preventive measure for People's Deputy Nikolai Tishchenko. The court granted the request for bail, setting the amount at 10 million hryvnias. This decision became a compromise between the defense's position and the prosecution's demands, which insisted on detention.
Details of the court ruling
During the hearing, prosecutors asked to detain the politician, but offered the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 19 million hryvnias. The judge, assessing the circumstances of the case, reduced the bail amount to 10 million hryvnias, choosing this preventive measure instead of detention.
Essence of the charges
A criminal case has been initiated against Nikolai Tishchenko on suspicion of corruption. The investigation claims that in August 2023, the deputy attempted to extort more than 1 million US dollars from an entrepreneur. As a pressure lever, the politician used threats to block activities or, conversely, promised assistance in the operation of so-called 'call centers'.
Money laundering
In addition to attempted extortion, the suspect is suspected of laundering (money laundering) funds in the amount of 12.6 million hryvnias. According to the investigation, Tishchenko used a fictitious gift agreement drawn up in the name of his ex-wife to hide the origin of the money. In addition, false information about these assets was entered into the annual declaration.
