In Ukraine, drivers now have a new opportunity: when exchanging a vehicle registration certificate (tech passport), you can choose a license plate with a desired combination of digits. The service is available in electronic format through the Driver's Cabinet, eliminating the need to stand in queues and allowing you to immediately check if the desired combination is available.

How the license plate selection system works

According to the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the new option is integrated into the service "Restoration and exchange of the vehicle registration certificate." This means that a unique number can be chosen not only for aesthetic preferences but also in case of loss or damage to the tech passport, as well as in other situations provided by law.

The registration process is maximally simplified and consists of several stages:

  • You must log in to the Driver's Cabinet via ID.GOV.UA or Diia.Signature.
  • Select the service for restoration or exchange of the vehicle registration certificate.
  • Activate the license plate replacement option in the application.
  • The system will instantly display a list of available combinations, from which the user can choose a suitable one.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that the license plate database is updated in real time. This guarantees the transparency of the process: if a combination is free, it will be available for selection immediately.

Cost of "beautiful" plates and additional expenses

The price of a license plate with a desired combination is not fixed and depends on the vehicle category and the specific sequence of digits. The cost of paid plates ranges from 4,800 to 96,000 UAH. The exact price of a specific combination can be found directly in the system when submitting the application.

It is important to note that the cost of the plate is only part of the expenses. Additionally, you will have to pay for:

  • The administrative service of document processing.
  • The form of the new vehicle registration certificate.
  • The production of the license plates themselves as special metal products.

Benefits for victims and nuances of wartime

In addition to paid options, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded citizens of support measures for certain categories. Ukrainians who have experienced Russian captivity or unlawful deprivation of liberty have the right to free restoration of driver's licenses and vehicle documents. The procedure is also simplified for guardians of missing persons: they are allowed to restore documents for vehicles registered in their name.

Separately, it is worth noting relevant information for all drivers under martial law. Current legislation allows driving a vehicle with a driver's license whose validity period has expired, provided it was issued for the first time for two years. This temporary concession helps drivers avoid breaking the law during this difficult period.
