On October 29, along one of Cairo's main highways, a large electronic billboard situated beside a busy street was subjected to a cyberattack. Pornographic images were displayed on the screen, causing a stir among passersby and drivers. Many stopped their cars and filmed the incident on their phones, after which video clips quickly spread across social media.

Incident Details and Social Media Reaction

In the footage distributed online, alongside the pornographic content, a text block was captured reading «Leak by: Ch, 19ylegal never and nivex», as well as a link to the Telegram channel with the handle @LeakersGov. This very link — t.me/LeakersGov — became the main marker by which observers and journalists identified the source of the attack. The incident took place on a street where the «July 26» rally was taking place at that moment, which further amplified the resonance in local media.

Position of the Egyptian Ministry of Interior

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior issued an official statement confirming the fact of the cyberattack. According to the agency, the screen belonged to an advertising company that had contracted with an international firm. «The website of this international company was subjected to a cyberattack, resulting in the unauthorized dissemination of images», the statement says. The Ministry added that the attack was recorded «simultaneously in several other countries», but did not disclose either the name of the company or the list of affected states.

Geography of the Attack: Iraq, Malaysia, Brazil

Local Egyptian media, citing their own sources, reported that similar pornographic images appeared during the same period on electronic billboards in Iraq, Malaysia, and Brazil. At the time of the Ministry's statement publication, these data were neither confirmed nor denied by the relevant departments of the respective countries. In Egypt, according to local publications, authorities had previously been forced to turn off electronic billboards in this area after the appearance of pornographic content on them, indicating a recurring pattern of such incidents.

Judicial Investigation and Systemic Vulnerabilities

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated that «legal proceedings have been initiated» regarding the incident. Details of the investigation, including the identification of the perpetrators and an assessment of the scale of the advertising infrastructure's vulnerability, were not disclosed at the time of material preparation. Such attacks via the «international contractor — local advertising operator» chain demonstrate systemic vulnerabilities in the management architecture of digital media screens, where the compromise of a single node allows attackers to simultaneously seize displays in different jurisdictions.
