Ukrainian tennis player Daria Snigur, who has solidified her place in the top 50 of the WTA world rankings, took a pause after a successful summer stretch of the season to talk about what matters most. In an exclusive interview with Sport RBC.UA, the athlete spoke candidly about the people who became the foundation of her career and how she manages to maintain psychological balance at the peak of success.
Snigur's path from junior tennis to the professional level turned out to be neither as straight nor as fast as expected. The long road to the top made her doubt the correctness of the path she had chosen. At certain moments, the athlete did indeed have thoughts about ending her career.
"Yes, such thoughts did arise sometimes. But I am glad that I was able to cope with them. Every athlete has their own path, so I will not be offended by fate, which prepared exactly this for me. I am very grateful to it," the tennis player admitted.
Family as the main shield against pressure
The key factor that allowed Snigur to remain in big sport, she calls family. For the 43rd-ranked player in the world, the support of loved ones became the anchor that held her back from breaking down during the most difficult periods.
"And what helped me stay in tennis? Family, and again family. Dad and mom are the people who will love me regardless of my successes or failures on the court. And I have no doubts about this," the Ukrainian emphasized.
Snigur noted that it is precisely a stable environment that helps her avoid unnecessary psychological pressure, which inevitably arises after a rapid rise in the rankings. The athlete is sure that more will now be expected of her, but the main thing is that there will definitely be no pressure from her loved ones.
The role of the father: mentor and companion
Separately, Daria highlighted the contribution of her father, who has accompanied her throughout her entire professional career. According to her, he is the person who had the greatest influence on her development as a tennis player.
"Who was the person who influenced my development as a tennis player the most? Definitely my father. Only he knows what we have been through and what we still have to go through. He always believes in me. What can I say, he is always by my side and flies with me to all tournaments," Snigur shared.
The formula for success: talent, health, and character
Summarizing the conversation about her career, the Ukrainian formulated a recipe that allows her to move forward. In her opinion, talent and health are necessary for success in modern tennis, but a tempered character is no less important.
"Character is tempered at training and in matches from childhood. And, of course, the environment is important, which has not changed for me since birth," Daria concluded.
