The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has provided official clarification on one of the most pressing questions for servicemen and their families: is immediate mobilization possible immediately after a contract expires? The ministry categorically ruled out this possibility, confirming the existence of legislative guarantees for the personnel.

Guaranteed deferment for discharged personnel

According to information published by RBC-Ukraine citing the Ministry of Defense, a mandatory deferment from mobilization is provided after discharge from service. Its minimum term is six months. This means that a serviceman whose contract has expired does not automatically fall under the draft during this period.

The ministry emphasized that in a number of cases, this term may be extended. An increase in deferment is possible if the soldier participated in combat operations. Thus, the legislation provides protection for those who directly carried out combat tasks, giving them time to recover and adapt to civilian life.

Contract validity and new service conditions

The Ministry of Defense paid special attention to the legal force of the contract. The document clearly specifies the terms of its validity, which are preserved even in the event of the end of hostilities. This ensures legal certainty for all participants in the process.

Earlier, Ukraine announced a large-scale reform of pay and service conditions aimed at increasing the attractiveness of the army. According to the new provisions, Ukrainian infantrymen are to become the highest-paid combat specialists in the world.

The new conditions include the following key changes:

  • The average salary of an infantryman will be 300,000 hryvnias per month.
  • Maximum income can reach 460,000 hryvnias thanks to allowances for assault days and presence at positions.
  • Three new types of contracts with clear service terms are being introduced.

Specifically, the introduction of an infantry-assault contract for a term of 10–14 months, as well as combat and basic contracts lasting 24 months, is planned. After the completion of any of these contracts, servicemen are guaranteed a basic deferment from mobilization for at least six months. At the same time, the deferment period may increase depending on the number of days spent in combat and total service experience since 2022.
