The fuel market in Ukraine is experiencing a significant shift: prices for diesel fuel and autogas are steadily declining. As of June 17, in several networks, the cost of diesel has dropped below the psychologically important mark of 80 hryvnias per liter. This change is the result not only of internal dynamics but also of global events in the energy market.

Global trigger: the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz

The key factor that triggered a chain reaction of price reductions was the preliminary agreement between the USA and Iran. The parties agreed to unblock ports in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and resume shipping. This decision immediately reflected in global oil quotes, which began to fall. The drop in the cost of "black gold" on exchanges inevitably translates to retail price tags at Ukrainian gas stations.

Expert forecast: why diesel was falling specifically

The decline in fuel costs was an expected scenario that analysts had voiced earlier. The Director of "Consulting Group A-95", Serhiy Kuyun, predicted exactly such dynamics. According to him, diesel fuel (DF) was the most problematic item on the market: back in March, its price soared by almost 30 hryvnias. It was precisely because of such a sharp jump that DF had the greatest potential for correction and subsequent decline.

Gas station prices on June 17: detailed analysis

At the current moment, on June 17, the following picture is observed in the market:

  • Premium networks (OKKO, WOG, SOCAR): Reduced the cost of both regular and high-quality diesel fuel by 1 hryvnia per liter compared to the previous day.
  • Autogas: In most networks, the price dropped by 1 hryvnia. The exception was the "Ukrnafta" network, where autogas became cheaper by 50 kopecks.
  • "Ukrnafta": The state network was the first to cross the psychological barrier, reducing the price of regular diesel fuel to 79.90 UAH/l.

The situation with gasoline remains stable for now. The cost of A-95 grade fuel is holding in the range of 73.90 to 78.90 UAH/l. Prices for premium gasoline grades vary up to 82.90 UAH/l.
