In Lviv, the counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) prevented a large-scale sabotage attack on a defense industry facility. The perpetrator planned to set fire to a workshop, carefully disguising the terrorist act as an industrial accident.
According to data obtained by RBC-Ukraine, a Russian intelligence agent was preparing to cause a fire that was intended to mimic a routine equipment short circuit during work. According to the saboteur's scenario, subsequent explosions were to be blamed on a technical malfunction to conceal the hostile nature of the attack.
Recruitment and Preparation Scheme
The suspect turned out to be a local resident recruited by Russian special services. To carry out the task, he got a job at the enterprise as a general laborer. The agent was controlled remotely: a handler from Russia transmitted instructions through the suspect's brother, who is abroad and also cooperates with the aggressive state.
After receiving a step-by-step plan from a representative of Russian special services, the agent began to implement it. He was tasked with organizing an arson and destroying sections with production capacities. However, SBU cyber specialists detected the preparation in time and detained the saboteur immediately after his attempt to set fire to one of the workshops.
Evidence and Investigation
During searches at the scene, law enforcement officers found material evidence of the preparation of the sabotage, as well as the personal belongings of the detained man. SBU investigators informed the man of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is charged with sabotage committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy under martial law.
The agent is currently in custody, and the case materials have already been sent to the court. His brother, who is hiding abroad, has been charged in absentia. Both men face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Other Detentions in the Region
This is not an isolated case of exposing an agent network. Earlier, the SBU counterintelligence reported the detention of an agent in the Donetsk region. That man, looking for "easy money" in thematic Telegram channels, was passing on the coordinates of the positions of defenders in Kramatorsk and Druzhkivka. According to his data, the enemy was striking with heavy FAB-500 and FAB-1500 aviation bombs.
Also in Khmelnytskyi, saboteurs preparing a terrorist act were detained. The man was exposed "in the act" when he planned to detonate a homemade bomb in a place where military personnel were gathered. To maximize the number of casualties, the perpetrator intended to call the police to the "location" with a fake call.
