Amidst growing competition between streaming platforms and social networks, Disney has decided to officially partner with TikTok. This initiative aims to integrate fan-generated content from TikTok into the Disney+ streaming app, marking a significant step in the fight for the attention of modern audiences.
Pilot Program in the US
According to sources, the companies will first launch a pilot program in the US, with plans to expand it to other markets later. The deal stipulates that fan videos from TikTok dedicated to the Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars universes will be shown in the short video feed of the Disney+ streaming service — the "Warp" section.
Contradictory Data
However, it is worth noting that some plans to implement this initiative were revised after OpenAI unexpectedly decided to shut down the Sora project in March. In this context, the agreement with TikTok became a logical continuation of Disney's strategy, as other streaming services, such as Netflix, HBO Max, and Prime Video, are also competing with social platforms for audience attention.
Financial Performance and Structural Changes
This announcement coincided with another period of Disney's financial reporting. The company reported that operating profit from its subscription video on demand (SVOD) business more than doubled — from $329 million a year ago to $712 million. Additionally, as part of structural changes, Disney decided to move its consumer products business from the Experiences division to the Studios division.
Previous Partnerships
Similar partnerships have been established before: for example, services like Tubi and Peacock have collaborated with TikTok creators to produce original content for their platforms. This confirms the trend of integrating social content into streaming services, which helps attract new audiences and retain existing ones.
