Renowned Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic continues to demonstrate the highest level of play at the ATP tournament in the Chinese capital. In a tense and dramatic quarterfinal match, the 24-time Grand Slam champion secured a comeback victory over Germany's Alexander Zverev with a score of 4:6, 6:4, 6:4. This success allowed the Serbian athlete to advance to the tournament semifinals.
The Course of the Tense Matchup
The match did not start well for the Serbian tennis player. Alexander Zverev entered the game successfully, breaking serve in the very first game of the encounter. Reliable play on his own serve allowed the German athlete to maintain his early advantage and close out the opening set with a score of 6:4. However, Djokovic's experience and character played a decisive role in the subsequent sets, where he managed to completely turn the tide of the battle.
In the second set, the opponents went toe-to-toe for a long time, confidently holding their serves. The climax of the set arrived in the tenth game: with the score at 5:4 in Djokovic's favor on Zverev's serve, the Serb converted a crucial break point, which also served as a set point, to equalize the match. An absolutely identical scenario repeated in the decisive third set, where the favorite once again outmaneuvered his opponent in the closing stages.
Record Streak and Title Chase
This victory marks Novak Djokovic's 32nd consecutive win on the courts of Beijing, reaffirming his status as an undefeated master at this tournament. The Serb continues his confident pursuit of his seventh China Open title, which could become his first earned trophy of the current 2026 season. The duel lasted about two and a half hours and gave spectators unforgettable emotions.
Consequences for Zverev and Future Plans
For Alexander Zverev, this defeat is a painful blow that significantly complicates his ambitious plans to finish the current season at the top of the men's world rankings. While the German tennis player concludes his tournament run, Novak Djokovic is preparing for his next major challenge on the road to the final.
