In Dnipro, where a day of mourning was declared yesterday for the victims of a massive shelling, enemy strikes have not ceased. The city, attempting to mourn its losses, found itself once again at the epicenter of an attack. Russian forces continued to strike infrastructure and residential areas, exacerbating the aftermath of yesterday's tragedy.
Mourning amidst war
On the night of June 2, Ukraine was subjected to a large-scale combined attack using ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles, as well as drones. In Dnipro, strikes hit residential quarters, enterprises, and social facilities. By the end of search and rescue operations completed on Tuesday evening, 16 deaths and 42 injuries were confirmed. Among the victims were four children.
City Mayor Boris Filatov declared June 3 a day of mourning. State flags were lowered on the buildings of the city council and municipal enterprises. However, mourning events were interrupted by new attacks. Shortly after the declaration of the day of mourning, the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration (RDA) reported a drone strike on a residential building, where an 8-year-old girl was injured.
Strikes on logistics and food supplies
On June 3, the day of mourning, the shelling continued. In his statement, Boris Filatov noted that a warehouse of the ATB supermarket chain was hit. The mayor highlighted the contrast between the targets of the attacks: "We have a combat corvette in Kronstadt. They have ATB warehouses with food in Dnipro."
Later, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk RDA, Alexander Ganch, reported a repeat strike on the Dnipro district. This complicated the work of special services, which were already deployed at the site of the first impact. As a result of the evening attack, several high-rise buildings and a kindergarten were damaged, with up to a hundred windows shattered. In total, eight people were injured, seven of whom were hospitalized, three in critical condition.
Damage to the Nova Poshta terminal
The next target for Russian forces was the Nova Poshta terminal. According to Alexander Ganch, damage was recorded at the site of the impact, and relevant services are clarifying the scale of the damage and information on casualties. The company itself confirmed damage to the innovative terminal but noted that employees were in shelters and were not injured.
Attack strategy and threats
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that Russia is capable of producing about 120 ballistic missiles monthly. Combined with other types of weaponry, this allows Moscow to regularly conduct large-scale attacks. Zelenskyy also warned that the Kremlin views Ukraine's ability to develop missile technology as a strategic threat and may focus strikes on defense enterprises.
The situation in Dnipro remains tense. The city, attempting to mourn the victims of yesterday's shelling, has once again become a target for enemy attacks. Destruction, injuries, and mourning are the reality faced by the region's residents every day.
