Massive attack on the Moscow region
On the night of August 18, 2026, Russian regions, including Moscow and the Moscow region, were subjected to a large-scale attack by unmanned aerial vehicles. As reported by the Governor of the Moscow region, Andrey Vorobyov, more than 150 UAVs were shot down over the territory of the region by air defense forces and electronic warfare means. This is one of the largest attacks on the region in recent times, which is confirmed by data on multiple infrastructure damages and fires.
Particular attention was drawn to the incident in the Bogorodsky district, where a drone hit a Wildberries marketplace warehouse in the 'Atlant-Park' area. According to preliminary data, the fire was contained, and there were no casualties. However, the scale of the fire and the strategic importance of the facility caused a wide resonance. The Wildberries warehouse is one of the key logistics centers of the company, ensuring the delivery of goods throughout the country.
Consequences of strikes: from warehouses to residential buildings
In addition to the Wildberries warehouse, debris from unmanned aerial vehicles fell on various objects in the Moscow region. In particular, a trading pavilion in the area of the 'Globus' shopping center, as well as the registry office building and several cars, were damaged. In some cases, fires were recorded, but according to officials, casualties were avoided. Governor Vorobyov emphasized that all emergency services were working in an enhanced mode, and the evacuation of the population was not required.
In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also regularly reported on the work of the air defense, reporting on drones shot down over the capital. He noted that the defense system is coping with the threat, however, the number of attacks is growing, which requires constant improvement of protection means.
Strategic context: strikes on Russia's logistics
The attack on the Wildberries warehouse is not accidental. As reported by RBC-Ukraine, Ukraine has already disabled 7 out of 10 of the marketplace's largest centers. Wildberries plays a key role in the Russian economy, ensuring millions of orders daily. Strikes on its infrastructure are aimed at weakening Russia's economic base and creating additional difficulties for the population and business.
Experts note that such attacks can lead to rising prices, supply disruptions, and a decline in confidence in online trade. At the same time, Russian authorities are trying to minimize damage by strengthening the security of critical facilities and developing air defense systems.
Contradictory data
While Governor Vorobyov claims that the fire at the Wildberries warehouse is contained and there are no casualties, some sources report more serious consequences. For example, videos of a burning building and reports of casualties are appearing on social networks. However, official confirmation of this data is absent. There are also discrepancies in the number of drones shot down: Vorobyov cites the figure of more than 150, while other sources indicate a smaller number.
Government reaction and prospects
The authorities of Moscow and the Moscow region have declared their readiness for further attacks and promised to strengthen security measures. In particular, it is planned to expand air defense zones and increase the number of electronic warfare means. The possibility of introducing new rules for the protection of civilian objects is also being considered.
The international community has not yet reacted to the attack, however, experts warn that the escalation of the conflict could lead to even more serious consequences. At the same time, Ukraine continues to insist on the necessity of strikes on Russia's infrastructure to achieve military goals.
