In the evening of July 12, the Odesa region once again became a target for Russian attack drones. Direct hits on civilian objects were recorded in the Odesa district: a multi-story residential building and the roof of a construction hypermarket. Fires resulting from the attack have already been extinguished, however, exact data on casualties and the scale of destruction are still being clarified.
Attack targets: residential complex and shopping center
According to preliminary data, one of the drones hit the upper floors of a multi-story building in the 'Raduzhny' residential complex. Although this object is geographically located within the city limits of Odesa, administratively it belongs to the Odesa district. The second drone struck the roof of the 'Epitsentr' construction hypermarket, also located in this district.
Situation on the ground and authorities' response
Oleg Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, confirmed the fact of the attack in his Telegram channel. At the time the information was received, the air raid alarm in the region was still in effect. Residents of the Odesa region are strongly urged not to ignore warning signals and to remain in shelters until the official announcement of the end of danger.
Context of escalation
This attack is a continuation of a series of strikes on the region. On the morning of July 11, Russian forces launched a missile strike on Odesa. According to Oleg Kiper, two people were killed as a result of that attack, and another injured person — a 24-year-old man — was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds. Authorities are currently continuing to gather information on the consequences of the evening shelling on July 12.
