On the morning of July 7, an earthquake was recorded on the territory of Ukraine. Subsurface tremors were registered in the Poltava region, specifically within the Lohvytsia territorial community of the Myrhorod district. According to the Main Center for Special Control, the seismic activity occurred at 05:26 Kyiv time.
Characteristics of the tremors
The intensity of the tremors was 2.6 on the Richter scale. According to the official classification, earthquakes of this magnitude are considered imperceptible. This means that ordinary residents of the region likely did not notice the event, as the vibrations do not cause visible damage and are not perceived by human senses without special instruments.
Despite the low intensity, specialists from the Main Center for Special Control have appealed to the residents of the region. If anyone did feel the ground shaking, they are asked to report it to the agency to refine the data.
Connection with seismic activity in Crimea
This event in the Poltava region is taking place against the backdrop of increased seismic activity in occupied Crimea. Previously, seismologists reported a series of earthquakes covering the peninsula. Over two days, seven tremors were recorded there, with the strongest reaching 4.5 on the scale.
Scientists note that major earthquakes in Crimea may repeat according to the so-called "centennial cycle," and this forecast remains relevant. Experts have also expressed serious concern regarding the condition of the Crimean Bridge. According to seismologists, the tremors have a "cumulative effect" on the crossing.
The key problem, according to specialists, is that Russia built the bridge in violation of construction standards. Combined with regular seismic activity, experts believe this will eventually lead to the destruction of the structure.
