Electricity prices won't rise: how to save on tariffs from June 1 and who gets subsidies

The issue of utility costs remains one of the most pressing for Ukrainians. However, ahead of the summer, the government has prepared good news: electricity tariffs for the population will remain stable. The price per kilowatt-hour is fixed at 4.32 hryvnias and will not change until at least the end of October 2026. This decision, announced by Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko, aims to reduce the financial burden on citizens amid economic uncertainty.

Subsidies for those who heat their homes with electricity

The authorities have paid special attention to households for which electricity is the only source of heat. This refers to apartments and houses with electric heating, as well as multi-story buildings not connected to central gas or heating supply. For such consumers, a preferential tariff of 2.64 hryvnias per kWh has been maintained. However, there is an important condition: the discount applies only to consumption up to 2000 kWh per month. Exceeding this limit automatically switches payment to the standard tariff — 4.32 hryvnias per kilowatt.

Night tariff: a profitable investment in a meter

From June 1, Ukrainians have another tool for saving — using multi-tariff meters. Installing a two-zone or three-zone meter allows paying less for electricity consumed at night. This is especially relevant for owners of powerful household appliances: washing machines, boilers, and dishwashers. Running such appliances after 23:00 can significantly reduce monthly expenses.

According to DTEK, the payback period for a multi-tariff meter with an average consumption of 200 kWh per month is about three years. After this period, the savings become a pure benefit for the family budget.

What's next: forecasts and risks

Despite current stability, experts warn of possible changes in the future. The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NKREKU) is considering the possibility of increasing tariffs for Ukrenergo starting July 1, 2026. Preliminary calculations show a 21.6% increase in electricity transmission costs. This could indirectly affect the final price for consumers, although no direct tariff increase for the population has been announced yet.

At the same time, gas companies have updated prices for May. Currently, eight suppliers are operating in the market, some of which offer fixed annual tariffs until April 2027. Gas prices range from 7.96 to 9.99 hryvnias per cubic meter, which should also be taken into account when planning a family budget.
