Elon Musk is preparing a technological revolution in the telecommunications market. The American billionaire has tasked the SpaceX team with entering the mobile communications market with a fundamentally new service from Starlink. Currently, the main focus is shifting to subscriber coverage within the United States.

Insiders report that SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell has already held meetings with investors to discuss the company's ambitious plans. During these discussions, she outlined scenarios for Starlink's entry into the retail mobile communications market. Moreover, specialists are already studying the possibility of deploying their own terrestrial mobile network on US territory.

Direct competition with market giants

Musk's strategy is simple and transparent: selling mobile contracts directly to end users. The businessman is well aware that he is about to enter a fierce struggle with the three largest American operators — Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile. However, the head of SpaceX is ready for this challenge.

Until now, the company's business model was different. Thanks to Starlink, quality coverage was provided in hard-to-reach rural areas where traditional towers could not cope. The new project implies a radical transition to a full-fledged mobile communications service for the mass consumer.

Massive business expansion

Financial Times notes that this is one of the largest commercial expansions of SpaceX since the launch of Starlink operations. The satellite internet service is already operating in more than 150 countries around the world, but Elon Musk is determined to reach even more people, offering them an alternative to traditional providers.

This step logically fits into the overall strategy of developing the entrepreneur's ecosystem. Previously, there were reports of SpaceX's plans to create a data center in orbit, which is directly related to the development of artificial intelligence. Also, the first details of the secret Terafab project have become known, to the implementation of which various companies under Musk's management are involved.
