At the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, where key regional security issues were discussed, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the need to end the war in Ukraine. The leader of Ankara called on the international community for more active peace efforts, stating that the conflict must be resolved exclusively through dialogue.
Call for Negotiations and Turkey's Role
In his speech, Erdogan highlighted the urgency of finding diplomatic solutions. "I want to emphasize that in the near future, we must achieve results in the issue of resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war through dialogue," the Turkish leader stated. According to him, Ankara remains ready to act as a mediator, as it possesses a unique status as an ally capable of negotiating with both sides of the conflict.
Erdogan noted that it is precisely due to a fair position and the ability to initiate processes that bring real results that Turkey has earned the trust of the participants in the confrontation. "We will continue to actively facilitate efforts to achieve peace," he added.
Crisis of Euro-Atlantic Security
In addition to specific steps for settlement, the President of Turkey touched upon the topic of global instability. Erdogan stated that Euro-Atlantic security is experiencing a historical turning point. In his opinion, the combination of wars, terrorism, economic crises, and illegal migration is forcing allies to reconsider traditional approaches to protecting their interests.
"We are at the center of a period of uncertainty, where tension replaces stability, and predictability becomes increasingly unattainable," he stated. Under these conditions, according to Erdogan, it is critically important to maintain NATO's deterrent potential and strengthen solidarity among the alliance member states.
Willingness to Become a Platform for Negotiations
The words of the Turkish President echo recent statements by the head of the country's Foreign Ministry, Hakan Fidan. The Foreign Minister previously confirmed that Ankara is ready to once again become a platform for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Fidan noted that the diplomatic process has reached a deadlock and urged the parties to return to the negotiating table, confirming Turkey's readiness to host delegations from both countries.
