Turkey is actively using its diplomatic channels to persuade Russian leader Vladimir Putin to enter into negotiations with Ukraine. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the NATO summit in Ankara. According to the Turkish leader, Ankara continues to support Kyiv, but at the same time is working to bring the conflict onto a peaceful orbit.
Agreement with Trump's position
Erdogan emphasized that his vision for resolving the war in Ukraine aligns with the position of US President Donald Trump. In particular, the Turkish leader expressed support for the initiative to form a list of Ukraine's priority needs (PURL), proposed by the American side. This indicates that Ankara is ready to coordinate its actions with Washington in the framework of seeking a diplomatic way out of the crisis.
Turkey as a mediator
In his speech, Erdogan reminded that Turkey occupies a unique position that allows it to hold a dialogue with both sides of the conflict. "As an ally that can negotiate with both sides, initiates processes that bring results, and has won the trust of both sides thanks to its fair position, we will continue to actively facilitate efforts to achieve peace," he noted.
Earlier, the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Hakan Fidan, confirmed Ankara's readiness to once again become a platform for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. He pointed out that the current diplomatic process has reached a dead end and called on the parties to return to the negotiating table. Turkey confirmed its readiness to receive delegations from both countries.
Solidarity in the fight against terrorism
In addition to the issues of conflict resolution, Erdogan touched upon the topic of the fight against terrorism. "I remind you that we must be fully united in the fight against all forms and manifestations of terrorism," he said, addressing the participants of the NATO summit. This underscores that Ankara views regional security in a broader context, going beyond just the Ukrainian issue.
Call for active peace efforts
During the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the issue of ending the war in Ukraine was also raised. Against this backdrop, Turkey called for more active peace efforts by the international community. Erdogan emphasized that only joint actions can lead to sustainable peace in the region.
