Brussels has once again confirmed its belief in Ukraine. The Council of the European Union has approved a new tranche of financial aid — nearly €2.8 billion. These are not just figures in a report, but a real resource that will allow the country to breathe freely amidst the ongoing war. The funds are being provided under the Ukraine Facility program, which has become the main anchor of stability for the Ukrainian economy.
The Result of Work, Not Just a Plea for Help
This tranche is not charity, but payment for work done. The European Commission gave the "green light" after Ukraine successfully reported on the fourth quarter of 2025. Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko emphasized that without the operational work of the parliament and the government, this step would have been impossible. The statistics speak for themselves: by May 2026, 86 reforms from the plan have already been implemented, and another 65 are in the active phase. Europe is paying for specific actions and progress towards integration.
The Scale of Support That Changes the Rules of the Game
With the new disbursement, the total volume of aid under the Ukraine Facility program since 2024 has reached nearly €27 billion. This is only part of a huge mosaic of support. In May 2026, the European Commission signed a memorandum on macro-financial assistance for €8.35 billion. These funds are part of a €90 billion package designed to strengthen fiscal stability and the fight against corruption.
The main nuance, which relieves a huge burden from Kyiv: this loan will not burden future generations of Ukrainians. Repayment of the loans will be made from reparations from Russia. This fundamentally changes the economic model of recovery, turning aid into an investment in the future, rather than a debt trap.
Response to Air Terror
In addition to financial stabilization, the EU is preparing a military response. In response to the escalation of Russian attacks, Brussels is finalizing an aid package of €6 billion. These funds will go towards a massive strengthening of Ukraine's drone fleet. Europe understands: for the economy to work, the sky must be safe, and is ready to invest billions in drone defense.
