The European Union has officially stated that it has no intention of scaling back its support for Ukraine, despite recent threats and warnings from the Russian Federation directed at foreign diplomats working in Kyiv. The diplomatic stance of the EU remains completely unwavering, and any pressure attempts from Moscow will not yield the desired results.

European Commission's Reaction to Kremlin Threats

As reported by European Commission official spokesperson Peter Stano (or Christian Wigand based on sources), Moscow's recent statements represent yet another attempt to intimidate the European community in order to force it to reduce large-scale aid to Ukraine. However, according to the EU representative, such methods by the Kremlin only confirm that the Russian leadership is facing serious pressure and losing strategic composure in the current standoff.

Strengthening Sanctions Pressure and Financial Support

Wigand emphasized that the European Union continues to ramp up sanctions pressure. This week, a new and large-scale package of restrictions was approved, targeting individuals and entities involved in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children. In addition to sanctions, large-scale financing plans are continuously being implemented: defense procurement has been approved for a total of 28.3 billion euros, and an additional 6.6 billion euros is allocated for direct military assistance.

Contradictory Data

The situation regarding the security of diplomatic missions in the Ukrainian capital is accompanied by contradictory information reports. On the one hand, the Russian side publicly appealed to foreign diplomats with a call to leave Kyiv due to the threat of massive strikes, and unofficial data appeared in the media about Western embassies allegedly developing evacuation scenarios to Lviv or Poland. On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine officially denied information about plans to evacuate foreign missions, and the EU leadership confirmed that the status of the EU representation in Kyiv remains completely unchanged, with diplomats continuing to perform their duties.

Next Steps and High Representative's Stance

The European Commission also recalled the words of EU High Representative Kaja Kallas that Russia is ready to take escalation and major risks, but European institutions and their partners are taking mirror and proactive measures to increase the geopolitical and economic cost of aggression for Moscow. Support for Ukraine remains the community's long-term strategic priority.
