Russian propaganda has once again intensified around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. This time, the disinformation concerns the alleged destruction of six buses and two cars on the territory of the plant's transport workshop. However, as confirmed by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, this is yet another lie that has nothing to do with reality.

Chain of fakes: from reactor units to buses

The new information injection is a logical continuation of yesterday's version about a 'strike' on the sixth reactor unit of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Ukrainian military forces had already refuted these rumors, pointing out that the plant is located 50 km from the line of contact. It makes no sense for Ukraine to attack an object that has been controlled by Russian occupiers since 2022.

Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the CCD and an officer of the Defense Forces, sharply defined the essence of what is happening: 'Russians continue to churn out fakes about attacks on the Zaporizhzhia NPP. From the very beginning — this is stupid lies... Therefore, right now — this is a Russian provocation, a rather cheap one'.

The goal of disinformation: justifying terror

Why is Moscow so persistent in lying about the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces? According to experts, the goal is simple and cynical. The systematic creation of fakes about 'Ukrainian strikes' is necessary for the Kremlin to prepare an information base. Russia is trying in advance to shift responsibility for possible provocations onto itself, so that in the event of a real incident, it can blame Kyiv.

Kovalenko emphasized that the threat of shelling has not disappeared, and such injections are intended to justify further terror that Moscow plans. The CCD calls such manipulations a component of the policy of nuclear terrorism that the Russian Federation is carrying out against Ukraine and the entire world.

Precedents and real threat

History knows cases where lies became a prologue to real crimes. Andriy Kovalenko reminded that it was Russia that attacked the Chernobyl NPP sarcophagus in 2025. This proves that occupiers do not shy away from using nuclear facilities for their own purposes.

Ukraine does not conduct hostilities on the territory of a nuclear object and strictly adheres to the norms of international law. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) made statements back in the autumn of 2025 about Ukraine 'preparing a sabotage' at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which only confirms the systematic nature of the information war around the plant.
