Ferry Trap: Why Giant Traffic Jams Formed at the Romanian Border Despite the Ukrainian Side Working

The situation on the Romanian direction of cross-border communication has sharply deteriorated. Significant queues of vehicles have formed at the "Isaccea" ferry crossing point (Romania). Congestion has arisen in both directions: motorists are experiencing difficulties both when entering Romania and when leaving it.

Information about the difficult situation is confirmed by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. According to the agency, the main flow of accumulated traffic is observed precisely on the Romanian side, which is territorially located opposite the Ukrainian crossing point "Orlovka".

Difference in Operating Modes

Despite the congestion on the opposite bank, the Ukrainian crossing point "Orlovka" is functioning in normal mode. Border guards note that document processing and transit operations are carried out rhythmically and without delays. At the moment, there are no queues on Ukrainian territory.

Ferry communication across the river operates 24/7, however, it works strictly according to a specific schedule. Drivers and travelers planning international trips are strongly urged to take into account the complicated traffic situation on the Romanian side when planning their route.

Context: Restrictions Due to Weather and Repairs

Difficulties at the borders of Ukraine in recent days have been systemic. Extreme weather conditions became the reason for the introduction of restrictions on the Romanian direction. Temporary movement restrictions are in effect at the "Krasnoilsk — Vicovu de Sus" and "Porubne — Siret" crossing points.

Due to intense heat, the Romanian side decided not to let through cargo trucks, including empty ones. The ban on leaving Ukraine and further movement on Romanian territory is in effect during peak temperature hours — from 12:00 to 20:00.

Parallel to this, a critical situation has been recorded at the Ukrainian-Polish border. Waiting times for passenger buses sometimes reach 8–12 hours. The cause of such delays was scheduled repair work at the crossing points. The Ukrainian side has already held negotiations with Warsaw, and Polish relevant agencies have promised to minimize the impact of repairs on border crossings, especially during the summer period.
