The evening of June 8 was alarming for the residents of Lviv. A major fire broke out in the very heart of the city, instantly attracting the attention of locals and emergency services. Flames shot high into the sky, illuminating the central streets, while dozens of rescuers rushed to the scene of the emergency.
Large-scale rescue operations
According to information received by RBK-Ukraine from local Telegram channels, the fire occurred in close proximity to Market Square (Ploshcha Rynok). The epicenter was the area behind the Galicia Hotel. In footage captured by eyewitnesses and posted online, the silhouettes of firefighters are visible against a backdrop of bright orange flames. Fire and rescue units are operating under conditions of heavy smoke and intense burning.
Multiple crews from the State Emergency Service (SES) arrived at the scene. Simultaneously with the firefighters, medical teams and ambulances are on standby on the street, ready to assist any victims or emergency personnel if necessary.
Context of incidents in Lviv
This fire occurs against the backdrop of a recent tense situation in the city. In late April, an incident took place in Lviv when an unknown individual threw two Molotov cocktails at the Islamic Religious and Cultural Center. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before professional rescuers arrived, although the police initiated a criminal investigation.
Currently, all attention is focused on extinguishing the fire at the Galicia Hotel. Operational information regarding the cause of the fire and any potential casualties is being clarified.
