On Saturday, August 22, 2026, a major fire broke out on the premises of the "Iskra" enterprise in the Sikhske district of Lviv. According to available data, the fire engulfed a warehouse where aerosol canisters were stored. At the scene, rescuers found the bodies of two victims. The fire was contained, however, workers of the State Service for Emergency Situations (SES) continued to conduct reconnaissance and eliminate residual fire spots. The incident was reported by Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovskyi on his Facebook, as well as by the Lviv City Council in its official Telegram channel.
Victims and injured
According to information published in the Lviv City Council's Telegram, five workers of the enterprise were urgently hospitalized at Saint Luke's Hospital. All five sustained superficial burns of varying degrees, and their condition is assessed by medics as moderate. The city council emphasized that the injured are receiving all necessary medical care. Mayor Sadovskyi, in his address, expressed sincere condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the two victims, whose bodies were found at the scene of the fire.
Course of the liquidation and SES work
At the scene, SES units were working, and, judging by visual evidence, robotic firefighting equipment capable of remotely dousing burning structures was also deployed. The fire was contained in a relatively short time, which is probably related to the nature of the flammable material — aerosol canisters. Nevertheless, as clarified by the city council, work at the scene continued at the time the official messages were published. Fire hoses were deployed in the adjacent area, and movement near the facility was restricted.
The "Iskra" enterprise: historical context
The "Iskra" factory is one of the well-known enterprises of Lviv, historically associated with the production of electric lamps and electrical products. At different periods of its existence, the factory changed its profile and structure, and various warehouse and production facilities were located on its premises. It was on this territory, according to city authorities, that the fire broke out on August 22. The enterprise is located in the Sikhske district of the city, near industrial zones.
Contradictory data
In official statements and media publications, there is a slight terminological discrepancy. In the initial reports and in the statement by Mayor Sadovskyi, the object is described as a "warehouse with aerosol canisters," whereas the Lviv City Council and a number of media outlets (including RBC-Ukraine and 24TV) refer to the "Iskra" factory. The fourth source (Rambler News) calls the enterprise an "electric lamp factory." Most likely, the fire was in a warehouse located on the territory of the "Iskra" factory; however, the exact location and status of the burning object (a production workshop or specifically a warehouse) are not clarified in the open statements. The versions also do not diverge on the number of victims: all sources agree on the figures of "two dead" and "five hospitalized."
Series of fires in Lviv
The incident at "Iskra" was not the first major fire in Lviv in recent months. As Lviv media remind, on August 15 — exactly one week before the incident at "Iskra" — a battery explosion occurred in an apartment of one of the city's multi-story buildings, as a result of which a fire broke out and an inter-apartment wall was destroyed. Earlier still, on June 8, a fire was also recorded behind the "Halychyna" hotel near the Market Square. The series of incidents underscores the relevance of fire safety issues in the city and at industrial facilities.
