On June 27, a serious incident occurred on the railway in the Zakarpattia region. In the settlement of Solotvyno in the Tyachiv district, the locomotive of a suburban diesel train traveling on the Solotvyno — Korolevo route caught fire while in motion.

Timeline of events and rescue operations

The report of the fire was received by emergency services in the afternoon. Firefighting units from the city of Tyachiv, the settlement of Bolshoy Bychkov, as well as employees of the Solotvyno Territorial Community Civil Security Center, promptly arrived at the scene of the incident.

The specialists acted quickly and in coordination. By 12:32, the fire was contained over an area of 25 square meters. The complete extinguishing of the fire was completed 40 minutes later — at 13:12.

Evacuation and consequences

Fortunately, a tragedy was avoided. The four passengers in the carriages were evacuated by the train crew even before the professional rescuers arrived. There were no casualties as a result of the incident.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) noted that the incident did not affect the operation of the region's railway infrastructure. The schedule of other trains was not disrupted, and there were no delays.

Context of the incident

This is not the first case of rolling stock catching fire in Ukraine recently. In May 2026, a similar incident occurred in the Cherkasy region: an electric train caught fire while in motion, forcing the evacuation of 40 passengers. At that time, "Ukrzaliznytsia" also launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
