Many believe that creating a flawless look simply requires spending a lot of money on branded items. However, reality often proves otherwise: you can invest a fortune in your wardrobe and still not look the way you want. The secret to a luxurious style lies not in the price tag, but in the details that often go unnoticed.
Darya Bronshpits, a personal premium stylist with over 13 years of experience in the fashion industry who curates wardrobes for clients in Ukraine and abroad, told Styler about the five most common mistakes that can ruin even the most expensive outfit.
1. An excess of logos
There is a persistent misconception that the more logos on clothing, the more expensive a person looks. The expert asserts that in reality, the opposite is true. When a brand "shouts" from every inch of clothing, bags, belts, or shoes, the viewer's attention shifts from the person to the items.
"Truly luxurious style does not need constant proof. It is read in the quality, fit, fabrics, and how a person carries themselves. Status does not shout. It speaks quietly," notes Darya.
2. Choosing the wrong tights
Tights may seem like a trivial detail, but they are often the first thing that catches the eye. Tights with shimmer (shine) create an unnatural reflection that is especially noticeable in daylight and in photographs.
The stylist warns: if tights are darker or yellower than the skin, the legs begin to "live a separate life" from the rest of the look. If you choose nude tights, they should be as invisible as possible and blend with the natural skin tone.
3. Mistakes in the fit of clothes
Clothes that are too tight or, conversely, too loose will still ruin the overall appearance. Clothing should work for your figure, not fight against it. Even the most expensive jacket will lose its elegance if it is too small in the shoulders.
"Proper fit is what always distinguishes an expensive wardrobe from a random collection of items," emphasized Bronshpits.
4. Trying to pass off a copy as an original
Many think that a high-quality copy is not noticeable. However, a stylist with 13 years of experience asserts that it is always visible. It is better to wear honest mass-market items without logos than an item that tries to be Hermès, Chanel, or Dior.
"It's not even about quality — they create the impression that a person wants to look wealthy more than they have their own style. True elegance is never built on imitation," noted the expert.
5. Ignoring the condition of accessories
People see details up close, and it is these details that reveal everything. Worn-out socks, scuffed heels, worn bag handles, scratched leather, or dirty soles instantly cheapen the look.
"You can be dressed very simply, but if shoes and accessories look well-groomed — the overall impression will be expensive. Better to have fewer items, but in impeccable condition," explained Bronshpits.
Style is not just about following rules for the sake of rules. It is about respect for oneself and the ability to create the right impression even before you start speaking. As Darya summarized: "Bad taste almost never costs cheap. Very often it costs a lot. It's just that the money was invested in the wrong place".
