NATO countries have switched to an enhanced monitoring regime on the borders with Belarus. The alliance's intelligence services view this country as a factor of increased danger that could threaten not only Ukraine but also the security of the entire region. This was stated by Ralph Goff, the former head of special operations for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Europe and Eurasia.
Belarus in the Crosshairs of Intelligence Services
According to the expert, Warsaw categorically does not intend to ignore activity on the eastern flank. The situation is being closely monitored by the intelligence services of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. In addition, Sweden and Norway have joined the monitoring process. Goff notes that in this aspect, Ukraine has been somewhat lucky: thanks to the vigilance of NATO partners, everything happening in the neighboring state is under close control.
Enemy Tactics: Scale vs. Innovation
Despite the attention of allies, Goff urges Kyiv to maintain maximum vigilance. The expert warns that Russia is capable of applying new types of weapons or changing the tactics of conducting hostilities at any moment. He emphasizes that the enemy cannot be underestimated, and one must be ready for any surprises.
Analyzing the balance of power, the former intelligence officer highlighted the key advantages of the sides:
- Ukraine retains an advantage in innovations and technologies.
- Russia possesses an advantage in the scale of resources and operations.
Sanctions and Plans for Winter
Ralph Goff also commented on the impact of Western sanctions on the Russian economy and war machine. In his opinion, although they do not produce an instant effect, they significantly slow down Moscow's actions. The losses suffered by the Russian army make it difficult to conduct large-scale offensive operations, however, this does not mean the cessation of attacks.
The expert predicts that the RF will continue to strike Ukraine's infrastructure. The goal of these actions is to create conditions for another 'heavy winter,' as well as an attempt to undermine the morale of the population. This contradicts Kyiv's plans, which, as reported earlier, are taking steps to end hostilities before the onset of cold weather.
