Ukrainian authorities have introduced important concessions for citizens affected by the war. Now, people who have survived Russian captivity or unlawful detention will be able to restore their driver's licenses and vehicle documents for free.

Interior Minister of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko made a statement regarding this. According to him, the right to free document restoration can be used once within a year after release from captivity or unlawful detention. The procedure will take place at MVS service centers.

Assistance for families of the missing

Furthermore, the government has regulated an issue faced by families of people who went missing under special circumstances. Guardians appointed to manage the property of such individuals will now be able to restore documents for vehicles registered in the name of the missing citizens.

This primarily concerns vehicle registration certificates. After restoring the documents, guardians will have the legal right to dispose of such property in the interests of the owner.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that the new changes should help citizens solve problems with documents and the protection of property rights more quickly during the war.

Rules for using expired licenses

It was previously reported that during martial law, Ukrainians may drive a vehicle with a driver's license whose validity period has expired, provided it was issued for the first time for two years. This simplification is valid until the end of martial law and for one year thereafter. However, for trips abroad, an expired driver's license is considered invalid.

How to verify the authenticity of a document

It is important to remember that the authenticity of a driver's license cannot be verified solely by a photograph or scan. Online, one can only check for the presence of the document in the registry. A full verification of its authenticity requires an expert examination, during which specialists analyze security elements, holograms, printing quality, and possible signs of forgery.
