The diplomatic front in Kyiv is holding its ground. Amidst escalating rhetoric from Moscow and direct threats against the Ukrainian capital, representatives of the "G7" have given a clear answer: they are not leaving. A joint statement by the ambassadors of G7 countries, published on social media, has become a signal of firmness in the face of intimidation attempts.
Business and diplomacy under fire
The decision to stay was not made without cause. That same morning, diplomats held a meeting with leaders of international business associations in Ukraine. The main focus of the discussion shifted from security to the economy: the parties discussed ways to improve the investment climate and support Ukrainian business. This demonstrates that, despite the military threat, the international community continues to view Ukraine as a partner, not as a zone requiring immediate closure.
"Despite threats from Russia, all G7 countries remain in Kyiv and continue their work in support of Ukraine," the diplomats emphasized in their statement. This gesture became a direct response to the Russian Foreign Ministry's call for foreign states to evacuate their missions.
Escalation of rhetoric in Moscow
The cause for concern was a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he claimed that Russia was allegedly beginning "systematic strikes" against targets in Kyiv. Following this, the Russian Foreign Ministry officially called on diplomats to leave the Ukrainian capital, attempting to create an atmosphere of inevitable catastrophe.
However, the intimidation strategy did not work. Earlier, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova stated that European diplomats did not plan to evacuate. Brussels also reacted to Moscow's actions: European Commission spokesperson Anity Hipper confirmed that Russian representatives had been summoned to Europe for explanations.
Reality versus propaganda
What actually lies behind the Kremlin's loud statements? Experts, including Ivan Timochko, Chairman of the Reserve Council of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, point out that such threats are often a tool of psychological pressure. The goal is not so much the physical evacuation of diplomats as the demonstration of "strength" and an attempt to destabilize the situation in the enemy's rear. However, the presence of G7 ambassadors in Kyiv serves as the best proof that Ukraine remains at the center of world politics.
