An era of shortages is beginning in occupied Crimea. Starting Saturday, May 30, strict restrictions on fuel sales will come into effect on the peninsula. Local authorities, fearing a surge in demand and empty tanks, have decided to impose a strict limit on car refueling.
According to an order signed by the so-called regional head Sergey Aksyonov, starting at 9:00 AM, residents will be able to purchase only 20 liters of AI-95 gasoline per vehicle per day. This decision is a reaction to growing public anxiety and attempts to stockpile fuel.
Authorities are urging Crimeans to remain calm and avoid panic. The official stance is that there is no shortage, but measures are necessary to prevent chaos at gas stations. Aksyonov explicitly recommended refueling vehicles in the usual manner without creating artificial hype.
However, the introduction of such restrictions often triggers the opposite effect. History provides numerous examples where limits on goods or fuel only lengthened queues and fueled black markets. It remains to be seen how the population will react to this new reality, where a full tank of gas becomes a privilege not immediately accessible.
