The world of computer benchmarks is undergoing significant changes. Primate Labs has officially introduced Geekbench 7 — a major update to its flagship cross-platform performance testing suite. This is the first major release since the launch of version 6 in 2023, bringing fundamental changes to testing methodology.

The new version is now available for all major operating systems: Windows, macOS, Linux, as well as mobile platforms Android and iOS. The developers have not only updated the interface but also reworked the logic of multi-threaded testing and introduced new evaluation criteria to ensure results are as close as possible to real-world user tasks.

Changing the Baseline: AMD Replaces Intel

One of the most notable changes is the shift in the baseline reference point. In Geekbench 6, the role of the baseline processor, scoring exactly 2500 points, was held by the Intel Core i7-12700. However, in version 7, this status has been transferred to the AMD Ryzen 7 7700 processor.

This decision radically alters the landscape of comparative charts. Since the testing methodology has changed, results obtained in version 6 are now incompatible with the new data. Users and enthusiasts will have to get used to a new scale, which will inevitably lead to reshuffling in the rankings of processors from various generations.

Game Physics Test and Current Workloads

The developers of Geekbench 7 noted that modern games place high demands on physics calculations. A specialized Game Physics test, based on the Jolt Physics Engine, has been added to the new benchmark.

This engine is already widely used in the industry and forms the basis of projects such as Death Stranding 2, Horizon Forbidden West, and War Thunder (Dagor Engine). The new test in Geekbench evaluates the processor's ability to handle rigid bodies and collisions in three-dimensional space, providing a more accurate picture of system performance in gaming scenarios.

The application is already available for download on the official Primate Labs website and in the respective app stores. The update aims to provide a more accurate picture of the performance of modern chips, taking into account their real capabilities in handling media content and complex computations.
