Singer and producer Gennady Viter, known as Nastya Kamenskikh's godfather, has publicly commented for the first time on the situation regarding the return of the duo 'Potap and Nastya' to the stage. In a conversation with RBC-Ukraine, he explained his attitude towards the artist's choice, why he cannot forgive Potap, and how their personal communication is faring amidst the war.

'I don't like it, but it's her choice'

For Viter, the topic of Nastya is special and painful. He admitted that he respects and loves his goddaughter very much, valuing her energy and what she does. However, the reunion of the duo evoked extremely negative emotions in him.

'She is my relative, my goddaughter, I respect her very much. I love her very much and I really like what she does. She radiates great energy. But as for this return of the duo, I really have a very unfavorable impression of this situation,' the artist noted.

Viter clearly outlined his position: he does not support Nastya's decision to continue singing in Russian, but he does not judge her for it.

'I want our people to choose a side. I won't say that she is doing something wrong by singing in Russian. It is her choice. I don't like it, and I am speaking frankly about it,' the producer emphasized.

Why Potap cannot count on forgiveness

Viter's attitude towards Nastya's husband is fundamentally different. He stated that he is ready to forgive Kamenskikh, but not Potap. The reason is his choice to continue collaborating with Russian performers and working on the territory of the Russian Federation.

'I don't like his position. He continues to collaborate with Russian performers and write music there. He speaks Russian, he does not express any information, gratitude, or support for Ukraine,' Viter explained.

Money as the main reason for the return?

The producer did not rule out that financial motivation played a key role in the resumption of the duo's activities. In his opinion, artists in Ukraine no longer receive the level of support and fees they had before.

'Apparently, it's just a desire to earn some money, because we understand that when you were in Ukraine, you were a star, you were respected, you were invited, and you always had some money. Now that's not there,' Viter suggested.

Contact is almost lost

Despite their close family ties, the godparents communicate extremely rarely now. Viter admitted that he doesn't even know Nastya's new phone number.

'I am ready and happy to hear from her, but she changed her phone number. I will tell the truth, I simply don't have the new number,' he said.

What is known about the duo's return

In May, the artists, living abroad, announced in Russian the resumption of the duo's work. This happened shortly after the official statement about the breakup. Since then, they have already given several concerts with old hits, and their fees are actively discussed online.

Recall that the musical activity of the duo was suspended in 2017, and in 2019 Potap and Nastya got married.
