Google is preparing a major update to the interface of the Gemini mobile app, aimed at making working with chats more convenient and intuitive. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing data from Android Authority. The changes affect the side menu, the notification system, search across chat history, as well as a separate settings block for the autonomous AI agent Gemini Spark. According to available information, all of the listed features are currently in internal testing, so their final form and the timing of the public release may still change.
Redesign of the Side Menu
The first significant changes concern the app's side menu. Currently, chats pinned for quick access are located in one common list together with the most recent conversations. In the new version, they will be moved into a separate block above the “Recent” section, which should make it easier to find regular working sessions. In addition, the icon for text-based search will be moved to the top of the side menu, and a new bell-shaped icon will appear next to it.
A Separate Notification Center
Next to the search, a separate notification center will become available: this section will collect all notifications from Gemini, including reports on completed tasks, Gemini Briefs digests, and other alerts. The developers explicitly point to solving a practical problem: previously, after swiping away a system notification from the smartphone's notification shade, it was difficult to find it inside Gemini, and the new notification center is designed to close this gap by preserving the history of actions.
Filters and Statuses for Long-Running Tasks
For cases where a user is looking for an old chat but does not remember the specific words or the text of the request, Google is preparing special filters for the “Recent” section. Instead of standard text search, conversations will be sortable by their current status. Two of the latest statuses are intended for tracking long-running tasks performed by the autonomous AI agent Gemini Spark.
The “Settings” Section for Gemini Spark
For the 24/7 autonomous assistant Gemini Spark, the developers are preparing a separate “Settings” (Customize) section within the side menu. It will feature a catalog of skills and apps: users will be able to discover new skills and connect third-party applications, sorted by categories — “For You,” “Productivity,” and “Creativity.” A separate menu will allow viewing added skills, connecting or disconnecting services, and managing permissions for their use in chat.
Minimalism and Managing the Status Bar Icon
The developers have also taken care of interface minimalism. Currently, when background tasks are running, the branded four-pointed Gemini star is displayed in the smartphone's top status bar. In the new settings, users will be able to disable this icon through Android's system notification settings.
Testing Status and Timeline
It is important to note that all of the described features are in the internal testing stage. This means that the final form of the interface and the timing of the public release may change before the update reaches a wide audience. Nevertheless, the published details provide a clear picture of the direction in which Google is developing the Gemini mobile client and its autonomous agent.
