Grand Theft Auto 6, according to analytical firm Sensor Tower, has generated about $630 million in revenue for Rockstar Games even before the game's official launch. Such figures, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, were achieved solely through pre-orders on current-generation consoles — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. In total, analysts recorded over 6.45 million completed pre-orders, making the upcoming release one of the most successful launches in gaming industry history prior to sales even starting.
Demand Distribution Across Platforms
The absolute leader in user demand was Sony's console: the PlayStation 5 accounted for 74 percent of all placed purchases, securing $468 million for the developers. The share of Xbox Series X/S amounted to 26 percent, bringing in the remaining $162 million in profit. Thus, the PlayStation audience proved significantly more motivated for early game acquisition than users of the Microsoft ecosystem.
Context: Investment and Market Comparison
Experts emphasize that such figures exceed the full revenue of many successful games over their entire lifecycle. The game is releasing 13 years after the launch of GTA V, which is why Rockstar Games attracted colossal investments: it was previously revealed that the company invested over $2 billion in the creation and marketing of the project. The $630 million pre-order revenue already covers a significant portion of these costs before day one of sales.
Post-Launch Revenue Forecasts
Financial indicators are expected to increase significantly with the start of the game's pre-load week, preceding the official launch on November 19. Analysts predict that within the first week after release alone, the global revenue of GTA 6 could reach $5.2 billion. If the forecast is confirmed, this will make the release the greatest in the history of the entertainment gaming industry.
Peripherals and Limited Editions
Concurrently with launch preparations, Sony unveiled two limited-edition versions of the DualSense controller for PlayStation 5 styled after Grand Theft Auto 6. The new items will go on sale on November 19 — simultaneously with the game's release. Both controllers received a special chameleon coating that shifts shades depending on the lighting and mimics sunset colors, alongside the official Grand Theft Auto 6 logo and 3D textured palm-tree details.
Significance for the Industry
The combination of factors — record pre-orders, a multi-year gap between installments, multi-billion-dollar investments, and aggressive marketing — is generating unprecedented hype around GTA 6. For Rockstar Games and its parent company, this is the key commercial project of the decade, and for the entire industry, a test of whether a single-player AAA release can maintain revenue leadership in the era of service models and mobile gaming.
