The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has issued a ruling to arrest Vladyslav Reut, a current employee of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The court session, held on July 9, 2026, concluded with the selection of a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to post bail. The serviceman is suspected of intentional murder committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.
Connection to the High-Profile Case in Monaco
The criminal proceedings have a complex international background. The victim of the crime was Anastasia Berezovska, whose body was discovered on July 3 in the Kyiv region, near the settlement of Yurov. The deceased was under international Interpol wanted status. Investigative authorities of the Principality of Monaco had previously established that Berezovska was the direct executor of the mining of a real estate object in Monte Carlo. The explosion was directed against Ukrainian businessman Vadim Ermolaev; three people were injured as a result of the incident.
According to the investigation materials, the motive for the murder was personal relationships and financial transactions. Law enforcement agencies recorded multiple transfers of funds, including cryptocurrency assets, from the detained individuals to Berezovska. As part of the investigation, the involvement of the figures in a large chain of events related to the attempted assassination of the businessman, who is under personal sanctions by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, is being checked.
Details of the Detention and Court Proceedings
During operational-search activities, two suspects were detained: 33-year-old Vladyslav Reut and his alleged accomplice — 49-year-old Vitaliy Zhikovych, a native of the Cherkasy region and a former employee of the internal affairs bodies. Both figures were arrested under similar conditions.
The court session was held in an open mode. Reut's defense requested that the hearings be held behind closed doors, citing the suspect's official status and the specifics of his activities within the Ministry of Defense structure. The court rejected this request, pointing out the absence of information constituting a state secret in the case materials and emphasizing the public significance of the proceedings.
Positions of the Parties
Representatives of the Office of the Prosecutor General insisted on the most severe preventive measure. The prosecution relied on the collected evidence base, results of technical examinations, and the initial testimony of Reut himself, in which the chronology and technical circumstances of the incident near Kyiv were detailed.
Vladyslav Reut completely refused to comment to the media representatives both before the start of the trial and during it. The lawyers refrained from announcing a detailed legal position until the completion of the complex of forensic medical and criminalistic examinations.
Legal Consequences
The actions of the suspects are qualified under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Intentional Murder). Committing a crime by prior conspiracy by a group of persons is punishable by deprivation of liberty for a term of ten to fifteen years or life imprisonment. In accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, the figures are considered innocent until their guilt is proven in a legal manner and a guilty verdict is issued by the court.
