Special forces of the 'Group 10' unit of the Active Operations Department of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine have conducted a multi-stage combat operation codenamed 'Cheburechnaya' in the Sumy region. As reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the HUR, during seven weeks of continuous combat operations, Ukrainian intelligence officers disrupted enemy offensive plans and cleared 642 hectares of territory from Russian troop positions. The operation became one of the unit's largest intelligence-combat events during the current period of the conflict.

Two Stages and Seven Weeks of Continuous Combat

According to the Main Directorate of Intelligence, the 'Cheburechnaya' operation was structured as a two-stage campaign. For seven weeks, 'Group 10' fighters conducted complex combat operations, consistently pushing back and clearing enemy positions. Each stage involved coordinated actions of reconnaissance and assault groups in conditions requiring high operational density and cooperation with other branches of the armed forces. Upon completion of the clearance, the liberated positions were handed over to the control of other units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which allowed the operation's results to be consolidated and ensured stable control over the territory.

Enemy Combat Losses According to HUR Data

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reports significant losses inflicted on Russian troops during the operation. According to official data from the agency, as a result of the special forces' actions, 107 Russian servicemen were destroyed, another 157 received wounds of varying severity, and 29 Russian soldiers were taken prisoner. These figures, as the HUR emphasizes, reflect the cumulative result of both stages of the operation and confirm the effectiveness of the chosen tactic of intelligence-combat engagement against the enemy group in the Sumy direction.

Destruction of Equipment and Infrastructure

In addition to personnel, Ukrainian intelligence officers inflicted substantial damage on the combat equipment and infrastructure of Russian troops. According to the HUR summary, 61 UAV launch and control points, 31 artillery systems, 368 units of motor transport, as well as 630 shelters and fortifications were eliminated during the 'Cheburechnaya' operation. The destruction of such a density of fire and command points indicates that the operation was aimed not only at forcing the enemy out of occupied positions but also at the complete destruction of their local combat system in the sector being cleared.

Context: HUR Intelligence Activity and Aerial Threat

The 'Cheburechnaya' operation fits into the wider context of the HUR's intelligence and combat activity this year. Previously, the agency publicly disclosed a list of higher education institutions and scientific entities of the Russian Federation directly involved in the development of missile weapons and advanced unmanned systems for the needs of the 'defense industry.' In parallel, Russian troops continue to actively use Su-34 fighter-bombers to launch strikes on Ukrainian territory. Despite recorded combat losses in strike aviation, Russia, according to available data, does not cease the production and modernization of this type of aircraft, which makes the task of countering the aerial threat one of the priorities for the Ukrainian side on all sections of the front, including the Sumy direction.
