Alexander Gvozdyk, the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist and Ukrainian boxer, commented on Oleksandr Usyk's decision to relinquish his undisputed heavyweight world titles. According to the 39-year-old fighter, Usyk has already reached the pinnacle of the sport and can either retire or fight one last time purely for the sake of enjoyment.
'He has won absolutely everything'
In an exclusive comment to RBK-Ukraine, Gvozdyk emphasized the uniqueness of Usyk's achievements. Unlike many legends, Usyk has succeeded in both amateur and professional boxing. 'He has won it all. Considering his achievements in both amateur and professional boxing combined, he has won absolutely everything possible,' Gvozdyk noted.
Comparing the Ukrainian to other great fighters, Gvozdyk pointed out that even Evander Holyfield, despite his titles, did not possess Olympic gold. 'Sasha has simply conquered boxing. Both amateur and professional. Well, now he will strike it rich one more time and that will be enough,' he concluded.
'Last Dance' as a fun fight
Gvozdyk expressed confidence that Usyk's farewell fight should not be a grueling test or a challenge. Perhaps the best option would be a 'fun' bout that brings the athlete not only pleasure but also significant financial gain. 'I can only admire Usyk's career. Perhaps writing a book will be something more important for him than a 'last dance',' his colleague shared.
It is worth noting that Oleksandr Usyk has 25 wins in professional fights without a single loss. Earlier, his former promoter Alexander Krasyuk jokingly suggested that the best farewell dance for the legend would be a hopak.
