A significant logistical disruption is expected at the Ukrainian-Romanian border at the end of June. Due to forecasted extreme heat and challenging weather conditions, the border crossing points "Krasnoilsk – Vicovu de Sus" and "Porubne – Siret" will temporarily restrict the movement of heavy goods vehicles.

This information was confirmed by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, citing data from the Romanian side. The restrictions will apply to both loaded and empty trucks.

Schedule of Restrictions and Passage Conditions

According to customs officials, the restrictions will come into effect on June 29 and 30. On these days, from 12:00 to 20:00, heavy goods vehicles will not be allowed to exit Ukraine, and their further movement within Romanian territory will also be blocked.

The department clarified that the schedule may be adjusted depending on the actual temperature regime. This means that if the heat is less intense, the restrictions could be lifted earlier, or conversely, extended.

Reason: African Heatwave

The main reason for introducing these restrictions is the expected anomalous heat. Previously, Natalia Ptukha, Head of the Media Relations Department of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, warned that starting June 28, a wave of intense heat would begin to cover Ukraine.

According to the meteorologist, the cause of this situation is the influx of hot air from northern regions of Africa, moving through southern and central Europe. On Monday and Tuesday, June 29 and 30, daytime temperatures in the Right-Bank region could rise to +35…+38 °C.

Infrastructure Response

High temperatures pose a threat to road infrastructure, particularly asphalt pavement, which can soften and deform under the wheels of heavy transport when strongly heated. This is why measures are being taken preventively.

The problem of road overheating is not only relevant for border zones. For example, in Kyiv on June 29, restrictions on the movement of heavy goods vehicles were also introduced due to high air temperatures, confirming the scale of the weather phenomenon.
