A sharp heatwave is approaching Ukraine. Starting Friday, June 26, hot weather will begin to engulf the country, intensifying over the weekend and spreading across almost the entire territory. Meteorologists forecast temperatures rising to +37°C and above.
RBC-Ukraine confirmed information about the impending heatwave, citing forecasts by meteorologist Nataliya Didenko. According to her, Friday will be the first day when the heat is felt in many regions.
Weather Forecast for Friday
According to detailed calculations, temperature distribution on Friday will be uneven. The warming will be most noticeable in the western regions, where thermometers will rise to +28...+34°C. In the south of the country, temperatures are expected to be around +30°C, while in most central and other regions, the temperature will be +24...+29°C.
However, the weather will not be equally dry everywhere. In the eastern regions, as well as in some areas of Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr regions, meteorologists warn of possible short-term showers with thunderstorms. Nevertheless, dry and hot weather will prevail over most of the territory of Ukraine.
Weekend: Heat from Western Europe
The situation will change significantly over the coming weekend. According to Nataliya Didenko's forecast, the heat will intensify and arrive in Ukraine directly from Western Europe. Residents of the western regions will be the first to feel this air mass.
By Sunday, the temperature across almost the entire country will be +32...+37°C, with local readings potentially even higher. The expert reminded that previously, a powerful hot air mass had been held over European countries, where temperatures exceeded +40°C. Currently, the synoptic situation suggests the arrival of this air mass over Ukrainian territory.
Context: Extreme Heat in Europe
The arrival of heat in Ukraine occurs against the backdrop of a difficult climate situation in neighboring countries. Western Europe has been hit by an extreme heatwave in recent days, setting temperature records and claiming lives. The most critical situation has developed in France.
In the town of Pissos in the southwest of the country, the air temperature reached +44.3°C. The adverse weather led to large-scale power outages: thousands of households in the Brittany region were left without electricity. Preliminary data indicates that at least 48 people died while swimming, trying to escape the unbearable heat.
