New traffic rules have come into effect in Kyiv due to abnormally high air temperatures. Since the morning of June 29, temporary restrictions on the movement of heavy goods vehicles have been introduced in the capital. This measure was taken in response to a critical rise in temperature, which exceeded the threshold of +28 degrees Celsius.
Why trucks were stopped
The decision to restrict traffic was made by the Patrol Police of Kyiv. According to regulations, when thermometers show above +28°C, the movement of heavy trucks in the city is restricted. This is a standard safety measure aimed at preventing tire overheating and possible fires on the roads, as well as reducing the load on the road surface in conditions of extreme heat.
Drivers of heavy goods vehicles who found themselves in the city at the time the restrictions were introduced are advised not to continue moving but to wait out the peak heat at special temporary parking areas. The lifting of restrictions will depend on weather conditions and will be announced additionally in the official Telegram channel of the Patrol Police.
Abnormal heat and fire hazard
Kyiv was no exception in the general weather picture across the country. A powerful hot front, which began in Western Europe, has reached Ukraine. Meteorologists forecast that from June 29 to July 1, the air temperature in most regions will range from +30 to +37 degrees.
The most critical situation is expected in the western regions of the country. In eastern Ukraine, including border territories, the air will heat up to +28...+30 degrees. Experts warn: against the backdrop of such an anomaly, the level of fire danger in the country increases sharply.
Load on the power grid
The abnormal heat is exerting colossal pressure not only on the roads but also on the country's power grid. The company "Yasno" recorded a sharp spike in electricity consumption. Citizens are en masse turning on air conditioners and fans, trying to cool down rooms, which creates peak loads on the networks.
The state company "Ukrenergo" has urged citizens to use electricity carefully. It is especially important to observe the economy mode during hours of maximum load on the power system. Experts also recommend charging power banks and other portable devices in advance to be ready for possible power outages.
