Kyiv is implementing a seasonal ban on heavy-duty transport. Truck owners and drivers should be prepared for the fact that when the air temperature rises above +28 degrees, access to the capital will be restricted for certain categories of vehicles.
The decision was made by the municipal enterprise "Kyivavtodor" to protect the road surface. In extreme heat, asphalt becomes soft and vulnerable: under the wheels of powerful trucks, it can deform, forming ruts and potholes, the repair of which will subsequently require significant budget funds.
Who will be affected by the restrictions?
The ban applies to heavy freight transport meeting the following criteria:
- Total vehicle mass exceeds 24 tons;
- Axle load is more than 7 tons.
The restrictions are comprehensive: such vehicles will be denied entry to the city through all checkpoints at the entrances to the capital. Compliance with the regime will be monitored by the Kyiv Patrol Police Department.
Legal basis and exceptions
These measures are not new but are based on the order of the Kyiv City State Administration dated July 7, 2012, No. 1173. The document regulates the procedure for restricting the movement of heavy trucks due to rising temperature indicators.
It is important to note that the ban is not total. Exceptions are made for critically important shipments. The following will be able to pass freely into the city:
- Military vehicles;
- Trucks carrying hazardous materials;
- Transport carrying perishable goods;
- Vehicles transporting live animals;
- Special equipment involved in the liquidation of emergency consequences.
Experts and road services urge logistics companies and drivers to plan routes in advance, taking weather forecasts into account. On days of abnormal heat, bypassing the capital may be the only way to avoid delays and fines.
Recall that the problem of road wear in Kyiv remains relevant. In particular, movement across the Southern Bridge is restricted until the end of October 2026 due to extensive road surface repairs.
