On the night of September 26, 2026, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on Zaporizhzhia. As a result of the enemy drone strike, a private residential building in one of the city's districts was completely destroyed, and a hit was recorded on the territory of the city market, where a massive fire broke out. Emergency services worked throughout the night at the scene, clearing rubble and eliminating the aftermath of the night terror.
Rescue Operation Details and Casualties
Initially, information emerged that two people might be trapped under the rubble of the destroyed private house. However, after search and rescue operations were carried out, the scale of the tragedy was confirmed: the bodies of two deceased women, Lyudmyla and Vasylyna, were pulled from under the wreckage. The strike claimed the lives of a three-year-old boy's mother and grandmother, as well as an adult man's wife and mother. In addition, a 4-year-old child (according to some reports, the boy is three) and a 45-year-old man sustained serious injuries and were promptly hospitalized by medics.
Attack on City Infrastructure
In addition to the residential sector, the strike hit city infrastructure facilities. In particular, one of the markets in Zaporizhzhia was damaged, with a fire breaking out over a significant area. The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration and representatives of the regional Defense Council expressed deep condolences to the affected families, noting the cynicism and cruelty of the night raid directed against the civilian population and civilian objects.

During the operational coverage of the tragedy by officials and media, some discrepancies in the details of the incident were noted. Thus, initial reports from the co-chair of the Zaporizhzhia Defense Council, Ivan Fedorov, indicated that two people were presumably under the rubble, and the scale of destruction was limited to one house. Later, RMA head Mykhailo Semykin clarified the tragic data regarding the deceased women and specified the age of the injured child (in various official reports, the boy's age is mentioned as 3 or 4 years), and also officially confirmed the fire on the territory of the city market.
