Gale-force winds paralyze tram traffic
A powerful hurricane has struck Lviv, causing serious disruptions to the city's infrastructure. According to RBC-Ukraine, citing the Telegram channel of Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, the storm has knocked down trees on several streets, damaged contact lines, and torn off the roof of an administrative building.
The most critical incidents occurred in the city center. Near Franko Park, a fallen tree crushed a trolleybus, while nearby, close to St. George's Church, a branch damaged the contact line. Wire breaks were also recorded on Solomiia Krushelnytska Street, at the Chornovil – Lypynskyi loop, and at the intersection of Stepan Bandera and Kopernika streets. Additional damage was sustained at the "Soborna" stop on Ivan Franko Street.
Due to these emergency situations, tram routes No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9 have been temporarily suspended. The city council has assured that the transport interchange will be restored as soon as utility services clear the tracks of fallen trees and repair the contact line damage.
Damage to buildings and road infrastructure
The hurricane has caused damage not only to transport but also to urban development. A strong gust of wind tore off part of the roof of the Shevchenkivskyi District Administration building, damaging windows in the process. A temporary power outage occurred on Lypynskyi Street, and a traffic light fell at the intersection of Varshavska – Tunnelna streets. Trees also fell on Kopernika and Yefremova streets.
Currently, all city services are working in an enhanced mode to eliminate the consequences of the storm. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi has urged residents to exercise maximum caution: do not hide under trees, stay away from broken wires and damaged structures.
Weather forecast warning for Ukraine
Storm-related issues are not limited to Lviv. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has declared a yellow danger level (Level I) and warned that bad weather will cover western, northern, and central regions, as well as Kyiv, on June 29–30. Thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and locally hail and gale-force winds are expected. Experts predict that such weather could significantly complicate the work of energy, utility, and construction services, as well as hinder traffic movement.
