The weather in the Carpathian Mountains has become unpredictable, capable of catching even experienced climbers off guard. A sharp and significant drop in air temperature has been recorded at the summit of Mount Pop Ivan Chernogorsky. On the morning of July 10, thermometers showed only +2°C, a stark contrast to the warmth at the beginning of the month.
Information about the sudden cooling came from the mountain rescue service of the Carpathians and the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology. According to their data, by 08:40, the highest point in the region was cloudy and shrouded in thick fog. The wind blew from the west at 2 m/s, creating a biting chill.
Sharp temperature drop
Rescuers note that the cooling process is not accidental and has been continuing for several days. If the temperature on the summit previously fluctuated between +3°C and +5°C, the figures have now dropped even lower. For comparison: in early July, it was significantly warmer on Pop Ivan — the air warmed up to +13...+15°C. This two-week difference demonstrates the volatility of the mountain climate.
Forecast for the day and region
According to the forecast of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology, July 10 in the region is expected to have variable cloudiness with clearings. Locally, meteorologists do not rule out light short-term rains and thunderstorms. However, visibility on the roads remains satisfactory.
At the national level, the situation also remains dynamic. Meteorologists warned that on July 10, rain is expected throughout Ukraine, locally with thunderstorms, hail, and wind gusts up to 15-20 m/s. The most intense precipitation is forecast for the eastern regions, as well as in Sumy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia oblasts, and Crimea.
In most regions of the country, the daytime temperature will be from 19°C to 25°C, however, in the south and southeast, the thermometer columns may rise to +28°C. Thus, while almost winter weather reigns in the Carpathian Mountains, the lowlands of the country are preparing for summer heat and storms.
