As of early October 2026, the volume of retail customer funds at Idea Bank reached UAH 6.2 billion. According to Volodymyr Malyi, Board Member and Business Development Director at the bank, the total growth of the deposit portfolio over the first nine months of 2026 was 24%, while over the past 12 months it increased by 33%. According to the bank's representative, this dynamic confirms “stable customer confidence in the bank and deposit products even amid heightened economic uncertainty.”

Term Deposits as the Main Growth Driver

The key factor in portfolio growth remains term deposits. According to the bank, their volume grew from UAH 4.2 billion at the beginning of 2026 to UAH 5.3 billion as of October 1, 2026; a year earlier, this figure was UAH 3.9 billion. Over the past 12 months, the share of term deposits in the retail funds portfolio increased from 82.9% to 85%. Meanwhile, demand funds (on-demand deposits) grew from UAH 0.8 billion at the beginning of the year to UAH 1 billion by October 1, 2026. Malyi attributes this structural shift toward term products to customers' readiness to lock in yields for a longer period.

6 and 12 Months Are the Most Popular Terms

According to Malyi, customers most frequently choose 6- and 12-month deposits, accounting for about 80% of all term deposits. “Such a choice helps customers lock in yields for a long period while maintaining flexibility in planning their own finances,” he noted. Previously, according to Ministry of Finance data for the first half of 2026, 49% of deposits in the bank's portfolio had a 12-month term, also pointing to the dominance of long-term savings.

Digital Channel: 62% of Deposits Opened via O.Bank

A significant competitive factor, according to the bank, is not only the interest rate but also the quality of service. Malyi emphasized that customers pay attention to the financial institution's reliability, the ability to remotely open and manage a deposit, service speed, and the convenience of the mobile app. “Many decisions are made not just because of a difference of a few tenths of a percent in the rate, but due to the ability to open a deposit, top it up, or manage funds through the O.Bank app in just a few clicks,” he said. By early October 2026, the share of deposits opened via the O.Bank mobile app reached 62%.

Context: NBU Raises Rate to 16.5%

Against the backdrop of inflationary pressure and security challenges, the specialist believes that Ukrainians continue to trust the banking system and build up savings, with deposits remaining a basic financial tool for many. At the same time, the interest rate remains important, but customers increasingly consider online application bonuses, new client bonuses, loyalty programs, and flexible top-up terms. On October 29, 2026, the NBU raised the discount rate to 16.5%, citing intensifying price pressure and deteriorating inflation expectations; the National Bank stated that this decision will support the attractiveness of hryvnia assets and foreign exchange market stability. Malyi added that until the end of the year, there remains potential for a review of rates on hryvnia deposits for 6 and 12 months, and any upward adjustment will primarily affect classic medium- and long-term deposits.
