On the afternoon of October 6, 2026, an extraordinary incident shook local residents in one of the hypermarkets in Kovel, Volyn region. A man grabbed an axe from a display case and suddenly began attacking random store visitors, inflicting injuries of varying severity upon them.
Chronology of Events and Detention of the Attacker
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM. According to the Main Department of the National Police in Volyn Oblast, the perpetrator acted erratically, choosing the weapon directly inside the sales area. As a result of his aggressive actions, at least three people who were browsing the aisles at that moment were injured. Police officers promptly arrived at the scene and detained the suspect at the crime scene.
Condition of Victims and Legal Qualification
All three wounded citizens were immediately hospitalized in the city's medical facilities, where doctors are providing them with necessary qualified care. The detainee turned out to be a local resident born in 2003. An enhanced investigative and operational police group continues to work at the scene, recording evidence and interviewing witnesses.
