Food market: record drop in egg prices
The most noticeable changes occurred in the food and non-alcoholic beverages sector, where prices fell by 0.8% over the month. Eggs led the decline in cost, with their price dropping by a significant 27.8%. Significant price reductions also affected other categories of goods: prices for vegetables, lard, fruits, sugar, rice, poultry meat, and grain products fell in the range of 0.6% to 3.7%.
However, not all products became cheaper. In June, there was an increase in prices for sunflower oil, fish, pasta, and bread — ranging from 1.0% to 1.7%. Alcohol and tobacco products also became more expensive: the overall increase was 1.4%, with cigarette prices rising by 1.8%.
Rise in utility and transport tariffs
Despite the decline in goods prices, Ukrainians faced an increase in service costs. Housing and communal services became more expensive by 0.9%. The main driver of this growth was a significant increase in water supply tariffs (by 15.3%) and sewage tariffs (by 14.6%).
In the transport sector, service costs rose by 0.2%. This was reflected in ticket prices: train travel became 3.4% more expensive, while road passenger transport increased by 1.2%. Hospital and education services also increased in price by 0.3%.
Core inflation and other categories
Core inflation for the month was 0.5%, reaching 8.1% on an annual basis. In the clothing and footwear segment, prices fell by 2.3%, while the cost of fuel and lubricants decreased by 1.6%.
In the context of rising fish prices, the State Food Service reminded citizens of the rules for the safe selection and storage of this product. The department emphasized the importance of maintaining the temperature regime and provided recommendations on checking fish freshness, as well as pointing out the risks of consuming dishes made from raw fish.
