On June 25, large-scale investigative actions took place on the territory of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant (KhNPP). Law enforcement agencies are conducting checks as part of an investigation into corruption schemes; however, as the state enterprise assures, this does not affect the operation of the nuclear facility. The power plant is functioning in normal mode, supplying energy to the country.
Investigation of Procurement and the "Midas Case"
According to information received by RBK-Ukraine from PJSC "NAEK "Energoatom", current law enforcement actions are focused on verifying specific procurement procedures conducted in previous years. The company emphasized that it is providing full cooperation to the investigation, submitting all necessary documentation and information in strict accordance with Ukrainian legislation.
"We are interested in a comprehensive, objective, and impartial establishment of all circumstances of the case," stated representatives of "Energoatom". Company representatives assured that production processes and the safety of the facility's operation remain under full control.
The investigative measures are a continuation of the loud resonance surrounding the investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). According to the investigation, a large-scale "kickback" scheme was operating within the "Energoatom" structure. An organized group, using third parties with code names, attempted to control the personnel and financial flows of the strategic enterprise.
Flight of the Main Suspect
The central figure in this case is 46-year-old entrepreneur Timur Mindich. Law enforcement officers conducted raids at his residence, but failed to detain the suspect. As it turned out, Mindich left the territory of Ukraine a few hours before the arrival of the investigative group.
Currently, extradition procedures are actively underway at NABU. The agency is cooperating with several foreign jurisdictions to gather necessary evidence and ensure the return of the case's figures to face accountability.
Safety and Stability
Despite the active work of law enforcement officers on the territory of the nuclear facility, the management of "Energoatom" insists that there are no threats to the energy system. Khmelnytskyi NPP continues to operate in normal mode, guaranteeing the reliable operation of the power units and stable electricity production for the needs of the state.
