Refat Chubarov, the Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, stated that the subsequent isolation of the occupied peninsula and the deprivation of Russian troops of critical resources—fuel and electricity—could force the Kremlin to enter negotiations or begin withdrawing its army. According to Chubarov, the temporarily occupied region is currently on the verge of panic. Although direct chaos among Russians has not yet been observed, the level of tension is rising rapidly. In pro-Russian public channels, residents of Crimea are increasingly expressing dissatisfaction, asking why the occupation authorities are not providing clear answers to security challenges and where the promised help from Moscow is.

Logistical Vulnerabilities of the Russian Grouping

The leader of the Crimean Tatars believes that maintaining the Russian military grouping will become significantly more difficult if the occupiers are deprived of electricity and fuel. At present, all enemy supplies rely exclusively on two routes:

  • The land corridor through the occupied Mariupol and Melitopol.
  • The Kerch Bridge.

Chubarov is confident that the complete isolation of the peninsula and the destruction of these logistical routes will put Moscow before a hard choice: either sit down at the negotiating table or begin a large-scale withdrawal of forces. "As soon as they start evacuating military personnel—that is when the panic will begin," he emphasized.

Reaction of the Authorities and Kyiv's Plans

Against the backdrop of growing tension, on June 26, the occupation authorities of the peninsula announced the introduction of a state of emergency of a regional nature throughout the territory of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The so-called Head of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, stated that the decision came into force at 13:00 and is allegedly intended to "regulate economic issues".

This step was preceded by a resonant statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The head of state noted that Ukraine's operation regarding Crimea is clearly calculated. Zelenskyy emphasized that if G7 partners provide Kyiv with the necessary funds, which were discussed, Ukraine will promptly create conditions under which Russia will be forced to choose peace.
